Frieze New York 2025

07 May - 11 May 2025

STAND A5

Goodman Gallery’s group presentation at Frieze New York 2025 looks towards cultural histories from the Global South, underscoring its commitment to artistic practices from the African continent, its diaspora and other interconnected regions. The works on view offer a powerful and poetic engagement with place, memory and identity.

Highlights include drawings by William Kentridge such as Try to Understand this Simple Speech, a layered ink and collage drawing that reinterprets South African histories. This work is shown alongside new maquettes that relate to the artist’s acclaimed theatre production Oh To Believe in Another World. Kentridge’s inclusion at Frieze New York comes ahead of his major museum exhibition at Yorkshire Sculpture Park in June 2025, the first institutional presentation outside South Africa to focus on his sculpture.
